All About KVPY

KVPY is an ongoing National Fellowship Program in Basic Sciences, created and funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, with the goal of attracting extraordinarily bright people to pursue basic science courses and a career in science research.

The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, has the overall responsibility for organising and conducting the KVPY Program and has established a Management Committee and a National Advisory Committee (NAC) to oversee its execution.

KVPY 2021 Exam Pattern and Syllabus

Stream- SA for Class 11

Students who have passed the X Standard Board Examination and are qualified to enrol in XI standard (Science courses) during the academic year 2021-22 are eligible to take the Aptitude test as a one-time measure due to the current COVID-19 scenario. Once selected as a provisional KVPY fellow, the student must present a study certificate from class XI. Furthermore, students selected for this stream will only be eligible for a fellowship if they enrol in an undergraduate study in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S.) in the academic year 2023-24 after achieving a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE courses in the XII grade Board Examination.

Stream- SX for Class 12

Students enrolled in XII Standard (Science subjects) during the academic year 2021–22 and planning to enrol in a Basic Sciences undergraduate programme (B.Sc./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S) during the academic year 2022–23.

The fellowship of students selected under this stream will be activated only if they enrol in an undergraduate course in Basic sciences (B.Sc./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S.) in the academic year 2022-23 after achieving a minimum of 60% (50 percent for SC/ST/PWD) in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the XII standard Board Examination.

Stream- SB for UG (Undergraduate)

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, students who have passed the XII Standard Board Examination and are qualified to enrol in the first year B.Sc./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc. Once selected as a provisional KVPY fellow, the student must present a 1st year B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S/Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M. Furthermore, the fellowships of students selected under this stream will be active only if they enrol in a Basic Sciences undergraduate programme (B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S) in the academic year 2021-22 and achieve a minimum of 60%.

Empowerment initiative in the KVPY Fellowship Program

● There will be a limited number of additional fellowships available for students from the SC/ST community in each of the above-mentioned streams.

● A limited number of fellowships in each of the above-mentioned programmes will be available only to students who fall within the category of Persons With Disabilities (Physically and Visually Challenged).

Students enrolled in an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences, that is, B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Materials Science or Environmental Science are eligible for KVPY fellowship.

Documents Required

Before filling out the KVPY application form 2021, candidates must make sure they have a soft copy of the following documents:

● Valid Email Address and Phone Number

● Scanned photocopies of signatures and academic documents

● Details for credit cards, debit cards, and online banking

● In pdf format, scanned copy of caste (SC and ST) and medical certificate (for PWD).

Candidates must read the whole KVPY 2021 Syllabus and exam pattern after successfully completing KVPY registration 2021. This advises them of the topics that must be covered in order to prepare for the exam. For further details, candidates can refer to the KVPY preparation guidelines.

Renewal/Continuation of fellowship

The Fellow continues to study Basic Science courses in school/junior college/university and maintains a minimum academic performance of first class or 60 percent (50 percent for SC/ST/PWD) aggregate or equivalent grade points, and the students must pass all of the subjects prescribed for that academic year (two semesters in case of semester system) and obtain the above specified percentage of marks. The marks/grades in each academic year's coursework must be confirmed by the Dean or Head of the Institution. If the requisite marks/grades are not achieved, the fellowship will be terminated.

However, if the fellow passes all subjects and earns more than 60% (50 percent for SC/ST/PWD) in succeeding years, the fellowship can be renewed only from that year forward, with the condition that the fellow earns 60% (50 percent for SC/ST/PWD) in aggregate every year. From 2012 recipients onwards, this will be the case. The KVPY fellowship is available to students up to the Pre-PhD level or 5 years, whichever comes first.

Summer Programme

Participation and satisfactory performance in the summer program/Project each year from the second year (B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat. /Integrated M.Sc./Integrated M.S.) onwards in an academic institution of national or international repute or a DSIR approved research lab (in the case of private labs or institutions) is required for renewal of the Fellowship. From the second year of the B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat. /Integrated M.Sc./Integrated M.S. programme, the report on the summer program/project, as well as the mentor's assessment report, must be provided along with the course performance certificate and other documents for renewal purposes.

Other Privileges

On production of the ID card, each KVPY Fellow will be granted admission to National Laboratories/ Universities that have agreed to grant special privileges, such as access to the library and laboratory facilities, to KVPY Fellows.
